Let his stupidity be your lesson
Well, I just got off the phone with one of our remote employees, we've
been on the phone off and on this morning for the better part of 2
hours. Last month his computer started acting up and eventually
died. Since it was still under warrenty he took it to CompUSA
where he bought it and had it sent out for repair. To make a long
story short when he got his computer back, they had replaced his
motherboard, and contrary to what the clerk who took his computer in
for repair told him, formatted the hard drive and reinstalled
windows. As you may or may not have guessed...our poor vicitm
didn't make a backup of it before he sent it out. So basically
the phone call we had was me attempting to gracefully tell him that
that pesky little release form he signed without reading absolves them
of all responsibility and there was minimal chance of data being
recovered by a professional. Having worked in electronics retail
for so long I know that you NEVER send a machine to a tech without
making a full backup. So anyway he's all up in arms as if it was
their fault that HE didn't even attempt to make a backup (I have all
the equiptment to do it for desktops and laptops) and trying to get
them to pay for data recovery services to the tune of about $700.
Bottom line...don't be so damn stupid! That concludes today's
class.
