Cool stuff
One of my friends from church is an instructor at a local technical
college and had asked about bringing a few students to our datacenter
so they could see our rack and I could explain to them about our
business and the technology we use. I told him that wouldn't be a
problem and took it a step futher and arranged a full fledged tour of
the entire datacenter. Hosted Solutions, where we house our
servers, was kind enough to take us behind the scenes to see
everything. I have to admit...since I worked for Penn State
in the server room, I'd already pretty much seen everything before, but
it was fun none-the-less. What I enjoyed the most was seeing the
interface left behind by the three OC-3 providers. This
datacenter has nearly 455Mbit worth of bandwidth...which is nearly 130
times your average cable modem...it's really impressive. Not to
mention thier NetApp (Network appliance, est. $250,000) that we'll be
plugging into soon enough. Anyway, it's was quite fun and I even
learned a bit.
On the homefront, we started packing yesterday. I know it's a little early, but we've got a ton of stuff and we're just boxing up the things that we NEVER use. Like books, bills from years past, clothes that are no longer in season, we'll start emptying out the kitchen cabinets of the stuff we use the least. Just trying to get it all down to a manageable amount of clutter I don't know where we'll put it all though as we have so much...it seems like we do nothing more then move a pile from one place to the next and don't actually open up any room.
I hope Joni doesn't read this until tonight sometime... We normally go to see the house on Monday's and Thursday's now, but Joni has a "girls night out" tomorrow so she won't be able to see it. I'm gonna surprise her tonight by taking her to the house to see if the drywall is in! wouldn't that be great! So darling, DON'T READ THS!!
