Slip and Slide
There was once a time when I wasn't quite so arrogant about my driving,
but the longer I live in the south the more I'm convinced that I'm
probably one of the best drivers on the road, especially when the
weather is foul. We went to SC yesterday for my father's
half-century birthday party and on the way there we hit some very foul
weather. In Florence SC, we hit an ice storm that would be the
end of nearly 20 very nice cars. I don't know that anyone
actually died, but some of them deserved to lose their cars! (I'm
not heartless, I said a prayer for all the accident victims that none
of them be hurt or dead, but I'm still glad they don't have cars
anymore) I think they all had the mentality of outrunning mother
nature, not going to happen! Anyway, we passed many accidents and
held a steady speed, made no sudden changes in directions and coasted
over all the bridges, wouldn't you know not once did the car even hint
of losing traction.
The birthday party was great, dad was so surprised when we walked in the house Saturday morning. It took him a while to figure out why everyone was there then about an hour before we went to dinner it hit him like a ton of bricks...they all came for my birthday? Must be the $1800 worth of drugs they have him on; he's normally much quicker then that. I got Robert's BBQ so I'm happy for another 6 months or two trips to SC and we spent this morning with Uncle Jack. I spend so much time with my parents when I go down there I rarely go visit anyone else and I feel bad about it so I skipped church this morning and hung out there (and fixed his computer). We're going to make plans for a few trips this year...a couple camping and possibly a Vegas run. My whole family was pretty interested in a cruise so we're going to look into something like an Alaska cruise or maybe even a Bahama cruise next year. It'll need to be something affordable as none of us has thousands of dollars to burn.
My laptop is on it's way here. It left Memphis TN Friday at 9:30 so there's a good chance that I'll see it tomorrow or Tuesday. Dell's still sticking to their estimate of February 8th, despite UPS's estimate of Feb 2. We'll just see. I really can't wait...I don't realize how dependant I am on mobile computing until I can't do it...it's been struggle not being able to sit on the couch and surfing the net with wireless, you all feel my pain I'm sure!
