An explanation

So I've received a few emails and IM's asking me about that last post.  An answer is in order, but I don't know that now is the time to give it.  Ehh, the hell with it, I doubt I'll be any less pissed of tomorrow.  I had my performance review today and to say the least it didn't go according to plan (you were right Jimbo).  I received satisfactory remarks all across the board, I'm slightly peeved about that in itself.  Apparently Colin doesn't give anything higher then "Meets Expectations" because he has incredibly high standards, well except for one employee; I guess he gave one person "Exceeds Expectations" one time in one category, but never has he given an "Outstanding".  Then comes the raise portion...now I won't go into the amount, but I will give you the history.

When I took this position I got the sob story song and dance about how what I was asking was outside his price range but they really wanted me so could I work with them.  I said I could, to an extent.  The offer came and was basically a lateral move (no increase), in fact it was a bit of a cut because now being salary I stood no chance of getting overtime pay.  I conditionally accepted the offer with the mutual understanding that I'd get a performance review after 90 days...well one year later it finally happened.  That brings me to current, I had a predefined amount of what I'd be willing to accept as a raise and suffice it to say they were shy by quite a bit...5% to be exact.  So now I'm torn, I enjoy my job, and MOST of the people I work with (I have little or no use for some of those who are of the Vice President of Sales and Business Development persuasion, as well as a few customer support types), but I am not getting paid even close to what the job requires of me.  I'm not asking them to break the bank for me.  I just take offense to being told that "I'm trying to pay people what they are worth" and finding out just how little my efforts are thought of.  So I guess I'll be starting the job hunt again.  It kind of pisses me off how companies will do whatever it takes to bring their "buddies" in, but will say the hell with the current employees.
