Technical post...you've been warned!

I'm trying up upgrade the production mail servers and include a new feature...IMAP.  IMAP is probably one of the greatest protocols for email known to man for two simple reasons..

1. It lets you keep all your mail on one server so you can access it from anywhere in the world and viola...there's everything...sent items, drafts...trash...all of it!
2. it's FREE!!!

I like exchange...don't get me wrong...but Microsoft is in complete disagreement with me on reason number 2! 

So anyway, I think I'd like to extend this flexibility to our customers so they can enjoy all it's benefits but it looked for a while like I'd have to redo the whole mail setup.  We host over 100 different domains and mail is delivered to the right place at the right time so I don't see much point in rocking that boat unless I have to.  Well I found a IMAP server that appears to be flexible enough to work the way I want it to and configurable enough to mold to my existing directory structure.  I'm so close to getting it to work the way I want, but there's just two little things keeping me from succeeding, one I can't use a variable to specify where the passwd file exists...since each domain has their own passwd file i.e. /etc/virtual/%d/passwd where %d changes for every customer.  The other problem is it won't accept the username in the form user@domain.com  it only wants the user part.  That simply won't do because we couldn't have two joes...one joe@domain1.com and joe@domain2.com.  Ridiculous!  So if any readers know how to combat this and have done it, let me know what software you use and how difficult it was to configure.
