Well after plotting to take the car to the shop for repair work, I started to poke around under the car and found the root of the problem.  What ever Joni hit, jumped up and took a chunk out of the transmission pan so that explained the immediate puddle under the car.  This, believe it or not, was a good thing..I was more afraid she had damaged the transmission housing or deformed it.  So I called around and found a Chevy dealer that had exactly what I needed in stock and it was on Joni's way home from work.  So she arranged with her boss to work from home for the rest of the day and grabbed the parts as well as a new starter from Advanced Auto (I really am not looking forward to the next credit card statement).  I had pulled the old pan down, cleaned everything and pulled the starter so when Joni got home I just started putting it all back in place.  I think everything is working, the car started, and drove.  I'd like to say no leaks, but I might have spilled a half a quart of transmission fluid or so, and that just makes it hard to tell.  I put a clean piece of cardboard under it to see if it's leaking, but otherwise I consider this case closed.  I'm avoiding doing too much cleaning right now, mainly because I hate cleaning.  Plus my darling wife comes in the house like a hurricane leaving debris in her wake.  Anyway, I'm just going to enjoy about an hours worth of relaxing before getting back to work.
