My current job requires that I be fluent in both Windows and Linux operating systems for both system administration and technical support.  I can't help but notice that all the people who need support...run windows.  I just don't understand how someone can LOVE working on windows?!?!  I know I am completely biased as a devout linux user, but when asked by windows zealouts why I like linux so much I have to stray from the common answer of reliability and speed.  I tell them it's the tools!  Linux has so many wonderful tools that help you along the way, and granted more and more of them are becoming available for the windows platform, but that requires installing seperate programs and that ins't always an option on someone else's machine.  Take for example a complaint I had the other day:
    Co-worker comes into my office and asks me why he can't get Remote Desktop to work, to which I say what did you do to verify that it isn't working.  He said, he tried to connect and nothing ever happened.  I ask, did you set it up correctly*?  Confidently, he says yes, so I run a quick "nmap" on his machine to see that...Remote Destkop is not running so I walk over to his machine, enable connections and viola it works. 
    I'm not saying at all that I wouldn't have found the problem working on a windows machine, but I certainly couldn't have narrowed it down so quickly from a remote location.  There are tons of other tools also, I only mentioned nmap because it was the one I happened to use.  Tab completion is another great tool that is only available through linux or you must order/pirate SFU (Services For Unix) which still requires extra work.  So Microsoft, take notice...your server level OS's should come with such tools by default...  At any rate, I've made my point so I'm done ranting...
    Ok, I just thought of another tool that windows is REALLY lacking and then I'm done...uptime...it's just nice to know...
