Haven't posted in a while...

For a good reason...I haven't been able to.  I mean I physically could, but so many things were happening at once and some were certainly not suitable for the general internet.  The dust, however, has settled and I'm able to discuss openly what's been going on.  I was offered a job last week by one of the largest defense contractors in the country.  The job was for a Sr. Systems and Security Engineer, and it offered a whole host of career enhancing benefits, not to mention a slight raise, but at the same time I was offered an opportunity to further my career with my current company, more specifically an opportunity in management.  I had to weigh out all the good and bad points of both, Joni and I spent a lot of time discussing both opportunities and the implications of my decision.  Ultimately we decided that while the Lockheed job was a wonderful opportunity, I simply couldn't pass up the opportunity to put management on my resume.  So you're no longer reading "A day in the life of a NC Systems Administrator", you're now reading "A day in the life of a NC IT Manager"!  I understand they'll be making an official announcement soon, but I know the people who read this 'blog from work are already aware.  I'll have two direct reports to start, and as I prove myself it could easily grow to three or four by the end of the year (obviously depending on the growth of the company).  So needless to say I've accomplished my 5 year goal in just a hair over 3 years and I'll be setting new career goals for myself as I settle into this new role so look for them over the next few months.  Thanks for all the help and support in this Aunt Pat and Uncle Marty and sorry for not posting sooner, but I couldn't afford to spill the beans too soon!
