I knew it couldn't last
If you're the kind of person who likes misery then
you'll love this post! Our string of good fortune seems to have
come screaming to a halt. It would appear that Joni's head gasket
has gone...again. It's not the end of the world, but it certainly
adds a little bit of uncertainty to our plans. I know that the
gasket is gone, if I squeeze the coolant feet hose I can see bubbles
come out around the gasket, which is never good! They are still
looking at it so we won't get a final verdict until tomorrow, but his
preliminary estimate is about a grand which will definately hurt.
I'm more worried about him bieng wrong. If you don't know much
about cars, the head gasket is nothing more then a piece of heavy
rubber or dense cardboard that seperates the head from the block (the
head houses the spark plugs and injectors, and the block houses the
pistons). If the gasket doesn't provide the seal it's supposed to
the anti-freeze won't be able to cool properly, not to mention
decreased pressure in the cylinder and loss of perfomance/gas
mileage. The not cooling properly is what worried me though, if
the engine overheats (which we had no indication of) then it can warp
or even worse, crack. This may render the motor useless, and to
replace this will run upwards of $3K, and the car is only worth
that. So you can see why I'm less then enthusiastic today.
Hopefully tomorrow will bring good news, but I wouldn't be surprised if
it brought worse! At least my car will get here tomorrow, that'll
be a good stress reliever.
