Whitewater Rafting

09/21/06 @ 12:35 am · By Steve Hoffman · Comments (1) · Leave one
So we've purchased the last of the gear we'll need for this weekend's whitewater rafting trip.  We'll be heading to Summersville, WV Friday afternoon with Mike and Nicole from work (well, Nicole's from work anyway).  I now have a full line of water wicking gear and enough layers to not worry about being cold or hot.  Our large group has shrunk considerably, but I think we still have roughly 12 going.  I've already started charging the battery for the camera and plan on taking plenty of pictures.  Joni's even convinced me to get an underwater camera, not that I expect a lot of time to take pictures while we're out.  If one of us makes it home...we'll post them!  Yeah, we decided to go from never having done it before to going straight to the top.  We'll be doing the Upper Gauley, which consists of class 3's, 4's and 5's.  I think we'll be OK...or I hope so anyway!

Oh, that sounds exciting! Please wear helmets and life vests. When we were in Bryson City, NC in August we watched rafters coming down the Nantahala Gorge (very light rapids). One even mooned us! The water in August was 40 degrees. Be prepared or don't fall out.
