Ready for a doozie?

THANK YOU, FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, FOR F$%^KING UP MY ANNIVERSARY PLANS!!!

I just got back from the Post Office where we applied for passports...what an exciting experience.  Aparrently you're not allowed to apply for a passport "in case"...you must tell the federal employee where you're going or they won't process your application.  So I got to ruin my surprise for my anniversary this year...since we're just going to Canada, I figured we'd apply for the passport to be safe, but we'll have the birth cirtificates which is all you need to drive across the border...Errhhh, wrong!  For some reason the ever so talented federal employee at the post office isn't enough to verify my birth cirtificate...it needs to be mailed in with the application so I'd have nothing..no way to cross back over.  Apparently there's some big crazy rush on passports...there's so many applications they can't possibly process them all in a timely fashion...oh, but wait..if I pay more money...all of a sudden they've managed to free up resources to process my request...so $350 later, we can expect to see our passports in half the time...to be honest..I don't even want to go anymore...it's going to be a great weekend...can't you feel it!!!!

Update on passport rules & regs If you have any interest in traveling across our borders in the next few years, the rules have changed again. For people who are flying to Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean, you must have a passport starting Jan. 23. You don’t want to spend money on a trip and lose it because you’ve forgotten to get your passport. Clark is now getting one for his 1-year-old son, Grant, because everyone needs one. If you’re wondering why this is happening, it’s because of the threat of terrorism around the world. The next phase in the new rules concerns auto travel and cruises, but that won’t go into effect until January of 2008. But the bottom line is that changes are coming and you don’t want to wait until just before the deadlines to order your passport. Many more people travel by car, so the passport applications will be pouring in at that time.
