TGFB (Thank God For Bandwidth)
I was looking at the statistics for the various
sites I'm running and all I can say is DAMN! I realize that the
webshots is the most intensive of them all considering that all the
pictures are pretty much untouched as far as size and what not.
Webshots alone has transferred over 500MB (note the capital B) of data
and that ignores the bandwidth used to upload the files. This
site is pushing about 100MB/month, while that's not nearly as
impressive, it's still not to shabby! I'm actually quite
surprised that I haven't got a letter from BellSouth yet complaining
about all my usage. When you factor in mail and general surfing,
downloading the latest Linux ISO's and random other crap, I figure I'm
up there in the 5-10GB of traffic per month. To put the total
traffic in perspective, my company runs a web based application and
that application used roughly 15GB worth of bandwidth last month,
that's with over 300 customers! Now the hosting servers on the
other hand...their my boxes...the ones that run ~90 websites, each with
an average of 5 email accounts, DNS and a few other services...They are
well over 100GB/month of transfers. But the whole point was...for a
single user I'm doing some bandwidth damage!
